Membership Policies

While many martial arts schools require their members to sign contracts obligating them to pay membership dues for a specific period of time, Montérégie Aikikai does not wish to impose this burden on its members. Membership, therefore, is considered to be on a month-to-month basis. However, in order that the dojo, like any other business, may effectively budget for its monthly expenses, we require that members, as a matter of courtesy and necessity, keep us appraised of any changes in their membership status. Towards this end, we have implemented the following policy:

Ongoing Monthly Dues payments
  1. The purpose of monthly membership dues has always been, and continues to be, to support the continued existence of the dojo as a place to train in Aikido. Dues are not payment for lessons or classes on an hourly, daily or weekly basis.
  2. Monthly membership dues apply to a one month membership period. The dues for each monthly membership period are payable by the last day of the preceding membership period. For example, dues for April are due March 31st.
Payment Methods

There are two ways to sign up for ongoing monthly membership dues for adults or children.
  1. You can authorize automatic monthly electronic transactions by filling out the form at the dojo. There is no contract; membership can be stopped at any time by providing notice 2 weeks in advance.
  2. Alternatively, you may pay by check or cash; this option includes a minimum 6 month commitment and is paid fully in advance.
Annual Dues payment option

Available to existing members of six months or more. Twelve months for the price of eleven remitted once a year. Annual dues payment can be made by check or cash only.

Late Payments

  1. Students who anticipate having difficulty paying monthly dues should communicate with the dojo treasurer PRIOR TO THE PAYABLE DATE OF THE DUES about special arrangements, either in person or through the dojo email address. We will make every effort to prevent any interruption in your training.
  2. In case of late payment without prior communication with the dojo treasurer: payment is subject to a $20 late fee.
Annual Fees

As of 2015/01/01 there is one yearly fee:
  1. The USAF annual fee of $45 USD, which is only applicable to teenagers and adults. Anyone training in the adult program who has been a dojo member for at least 6 months or who has tested must register with the Montérégie Aikikai's parent organization, the USAF. The dojo will forward these fees on to the USAF.
Annual fees for existing students are payable by January 21st.

New Students
  1. The first dues payment for new students applies to the first day of practice and the one month period immediately following.
  2. New students are assessed the registration fee as follows:
  • New students pay a registration fee with their first dues payment. The registration fee is $50 for adults and teenagers, and $25 for children aged 12 and under.
  • Participants of promotional introductory packages may have the the dojo registration fee included in their package fee.
Taking a break from active training

Occasionally members find they need to take a break from regular training. Whether this decision is due to health reasons, travel or opportunity, we ask that you communicate your plans and manage your membership status. When you need to take a break from practice, you have two options:
  1. Maintain your regular membership dues as continuing support of the dojo.
  2. Disconnect from the dojo and stop paying dues. If you choose to return to training in the future you will join as a new member and pay the registration fee. For returning children, the registration fee will be waived if you notify the children's instructors in writing before taking the break from training.
